This engraving from a paintng by Labouchere shows Martin Luther translating the Bible with Melancthon, Pomeranus and Cruciger. Labouchere was of Huguenot ancestry and painted works related to the Reformation and particularly the life of Luther. In 1846 he received a 2nd class medal at the Paris Salon for his painting of Luther translating the Bible with Melanchton, Pomeranus and Cruciger, a painting which soon was in the collection of the King of Holland. This print is from a book and shows a lot of aging. |
